Kidney stone disease treatment with Holmium Yag laser

Kidney stone treatment with Holmium Yag laser is a procedure that is done under general anesthetic and is minimally invasive and is referred to as Laser Lithotripsy.

Laser Lithotripsy can be used for the treatment of Urinary tract stones. The stones can be located in the kidney, ureter of bladder. Laser Lithotripsy is an effective treatment and fragments all stone types

Once a stone is located with X ray or CT scans, the surgeon inserts a rigid of Flexible endoscope in the urinary tract. The surgeon then place a thin fiber is into the working channel of the endoscope and advanced the fiber until it comes into contact with the stone. 

The laser energy is directed through the fiber and the stone disintegrates into fragments.Smaller stone fragments can then be removed with the stone retrieval basket.
